1984–1989
Youth bike racer
Red Zinger Mini Classics
The “Zinger” was a formative experience for a lot of kids.
An annual week long stage race for kids ages 10-17 was unique in both time and place.
It was my introduction to cycling and competitive sports in general. I have been a cyclist ever since.
1989-1990
Snowboard instructor
Eldora Mountain Resort
One of the first snowboard instructors at Eldora just as the sport kicked into high gear.
1990
Graduated from Boulder High School
Boulder High School
1990-1991
Ski patroller
Eldora Mountain Resort
After working at Eldora the year before, I really wanted to be a patroller.
I got my EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification the summer after graduating from High School,
and started in the fall as the youngest patroller at Eldora.
1991-1994
Western State College
Western State College
Drawn to the mountains and nearby Crested Butte, I attended Western State College.
In addition to discovering an interest in computer science and rock climbing,
I also participated in the school’s Search and Rescue Team.
1994-1998
Search and rescue, six summers
Yosemite Search and Rescue (YOSAR)
Ski Patrol and being part of the Rescue Team at Western State led me to apply for the Yosemite Search and Rescue team (YOSAR).
A full professional rescue organization with rock and high-angle rescue skills.
I learned a huge amount during these years about technical safety, the history of climbing and detailed process management.
1994–1997
BA, Environmental Studies / Snow Hydrology
University of Colorado Boulder
1995–1998
Ski Shop Technician
Ski Gear Direct
One of the first and only mail-order ski shops in the country prior to the internet!
I tuned skis, did in-house and phone sales support, attended trade shows, and helped to plan orders and sales volume.
1998–2010
Sponsored telemark skier
K2, Outdoor Research, Garmont, Patagonia, The North Face
The “Telemark Revival” of the late 90’s and early 2000’s saw the first big mountain competition for
telemark skiers as well as an explosion of media coverage.
I was lucky to be part of this wave and got to promote a sport I love, travel around the world and ski in amazing places.
As my career matured, I was able to do product development with my sponsors and help build their brands.
1999–2000
Product Expert in the dot com boom
Planetoutdoors.com
This was the dot-com boom and e-commerce was everything. I was a product expert for customer service support,
sales and marketing. I also spent a lot of time with the programmers building the platform and began to
learn more about web development and product design.
2001–2005
Becoming a Web Designer
a Boulder media company
I got my first real “web designer” job just as the bubble burst! I worked on design, UI and front-end projects
for multiple media sites, got to experiment with Flash, and early javascript (ajax!).
2005–present
Becoming a Husband
We were married at Brainard Lake in the mountains above Boulder. Our wedding vows included a commitment to travelling together.
Our honeymoon was a trip around the world, and we still leave the country at least once a year and travel to new places.
2005–present
Contractor, Partner, Owner, Principal
Snow Jewel, LLC and many more
Working for myself, partnering and running small companies has been the bulk of my professional career.
I have worked alone, with partners and as a co-op member. Always the responsibility to deliver quality
work to clients has driven my skill growth and success.
2006–2008
A Lasting Client Relationship
Quintess Collection
Quintess deserves a special mention. They were my first big client, and I worked for them for eight years.
I got to work with great people and deliver all kinds of creative and technical projects.
2006–2007
Co-Founding a Startup
Crowdfunder.com
Right place, wrong time. I co-founded Crowdfunder.com, a crowdfunding platform that was essentially GoFundMe.
The timing just wasn’t right.
2008–2010
Partnered with Relish Studio
Relish Studio
Another iteration of self-employed agency work. We did fantastic design and branding for a wide range of clients.
2010
Becoming a Father
Our son Felix was born in 2010
2011–2023
Dojo4 Contractor, then Co-Op Member and Owner
Dojo4
A social experiment masquerading as a business…and one of the best community-driven organizations ever.
2023–2026
Senior Software Engineer, Identity/Account
EasyPost
I was asked to add OAuth for UPS, and built it inside the web backend. Near the finish
it was obvious FedEx, USPS and others would follow, so I pulled it out into its own
identity service that other teams could extend on their own.
By the time I left it handled carrier OAuth for UPS, USPS, Amazon and TikTok, customer
SSO over SAML, and MFA for EasyPost users.
